New in the Shop: Wool Vegetables

I spent all week knitting these little guys and now they're up in my shop.  Check it out :-D

Just Like Mommy

Today I bought some cloth pads on Etsy.  I bought them from Lohanstore because they had the best price, the right shaped pad, and the materials I wanted.  Normally, I make my own, but I'm just tired of making them.  I wanted to pay someone else to do it.  And I'd like to diversify too, try something different from what I've made.

Anyway....

That got me thinking.  About Moms.  And daughters...because, well, I'm a mom with a daughter!

And since I'm a member of the Etsyclothdiaper team, I started thinking about Etsy products for Mom's and daughters--cloth diapers and cloth maxi pads, diaper bags that double as purses, fashionable jewelry and teething jewelry,  matching aprons and skirts--things that my daughter and I will either enjoy together or  that we will both find useful (or that we HAVE found useful, as in the case of cloth diapers)

And with that in mind, I made up this awesome little collection of things for mothers and daughters that features ambers, turquoises, and reds as well as lots of birds (which was sort of an accident)  They're fun things, and useful things, and of course "green" things.  I hope you enjoy it!

My Daughter the Preacher

Matthew 21:16
They asked Jesus, "Do you hear what these children are saying?" "Yes," Jesus replied. "Haven't you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, 'You have taught children and infants to give you praise.'"

Between a a meal in the fellowship hall and a slide show that followed in the sanctuary, my little girl got up on the altar, stood behind the communion table and began preaching to the 20 or so people who'd started to straggle into the sanctuary. At the top of her lungs she said things like, "You guys, the King said we could come to his house!" "A cross--Jesus died on the cross!" And "You guys should pray."  I told the Pastor that I think she's trying to take his job.

(The photo, by the way, is of her eating her Dunkin Donut hash browns in the church foyer before Sunday school began)

Classroom Bling

I have a new "smart board" in my classroom.  Right now, it's just a glorified projector screen until it's set up, but I'm happy!

Bible Toys Update

I finished painting the peg people I bought from iUsedToBeATree!  They look awesome and I can´t wait til Bunny wakes up so that we can play with them together!  She´s gonna love them :-D.

Rosita the Monster

Bunny's been a bit fixated on monsters in her play lately.  I would like to keep monsters a positive thing for her, so this morning I decided to whip up this little girl.

I drew the shape on printer paper (making the arms, fingers, and legs wider than I thought I'd need) and then let Bunny decide on her facial features.  I appliqued them with a zig zag stitch on my sewing machine, then sewed the body parts together, turned the whole thing right side out, stuffed it, and closed the hole with a baseball stitch.  Bunny loves her.  She's currently "braiding" her hair.  Sweet!

Now if I could just have as much motivation when it comes to my housework...

Bible Toys

I decided that since Bunny loves reading her Bible, and since we really want her to grow to love the Lord, that she needed some Biblically themed toys.  Problem is, they're nearly impossible to find, other than Nativity sets and Noah's arks (both of which she has).  Granted, my Christian bookstore has a couple less common sets--Jesus and the disciples, the armor of God, but I'm not thrilled with the quality...so I decided to make some!

I bought these peg people--3 1/2 inch peg people, so they're nice and big-- from iUsedToBeATree on Etsy, and a handful of 2 inch peg people from Hobby Lobby and Michaels and commenced to painting.

I like how it's going so far, and Bunny's really excited about them too!  I plan on always keeping an eye out for little wooden objects that can go with my peg people--animals, trees, boats, houses--and creating "sets" for different stories such as creation, Adam and Eve, Daniel in the lion's den.

But right now, we're starting with Jesus, Peter, Andrew, James, and John because Bunny loves the second verse of Jesus Loves Me where it says "Jesus called them one by one, Peter, Andrew James and John.  They were fishing by the sea, Jesus said, 'Come follow me'."

I sort of liked them without faces, but then Bunny wanted faces, so I went with it.

So, here they are so far.  I'm not finished with them.  They still need some shading, and details--though I'm pretty sure I'm going to skip the arms on them.  I'm excited, she's excited, and my fidgety hands have one more little project to accomplish.  It's a win win situation all around!

I can't wait until we collect more pieces to her play sets.  I think it's going to be a great way to stretch her imagination and to give her a kinesthetic and tactile way to learn her Bible stories.

I think for future wooden peg people purchases I might go to this shop, or maybe this one because they've got a much bigger variety and better prices.
